Wednesday night on Big Brother 28, the veto competition asked the houseguests to hand each other glasses of wine and hope the poison landed somewhere else. It played as a party game, and it also described the season perfectly, because most conversations in that house involve someone smiling while passing something toxic to a person they claim to be protecting.
By the end of the ninety minutes, Taylor Brown had the Power of Veto, Haley Thogmartin had named a replacement she did not seem thrilled about, and the alliance running this season spent the back half of the episode bickering on camera. The result was tidy. The fallout is not.
A Nomination Speech That Did Not Survive Five Minutes Of Questioning
The episode opened where the nomination ceremony left off. Haley said she has no patience for what she reads as Melody Morris and her mean girl streak, but that Taylor was the real target because taking her out would cost the least. Drew Campbell was a pawn, put up to keep him in check.
Drew did not follow that logic, and neither did anyone else. Taylor went upstairs and asked why she was nominated. Haley said it was because Taylor laughed when Jason was banging the teapot. Taylor pointed out that half the house laughed. Haley had nothing. When an HOH cannot defend her own nominations for two minutes, she has told the house more than any name she said out loud.
Kamu Floats A Different Name Entirely
While that was falling apart, Lyric Medeiros and Kamu were talking about the obvious: eventually you work with the side that keeps winning. Kamu took it upstairs and suggested Haley stop treating Drew as a pawn and start treating him as the exit, with Lyric brought in as a loyal number.
Drew Talks Himself Into A Corner
Haley took half the pitch. She was open to Drew becoming the target and had zero interest in adopting Lyric, which is the crack that widens later.
Drew then did the worst thing available to him. He told Devens that being nominated was fine, because now he had a reason to put Haley up when he wins HOH. He meant it as a shrug. Devens heard a man announcing his future plans out loud.
Devens took that to Dee and Angela, and all three landed in the same place: Drew has gone from liability to threat, mostly because of how comfortable he is with the other side. They agreed to blindside one of their own if he failed to win the veto or the BB Blockbuster. Haley and Chuk signed off. Drew went back to Haley for reassurance and got it.
Lyric Keeps Knocking On A Door That Is Not Going To Open
Lyric spent the middle of the episode campaigning to join a group that had already decided she was not welcome, and Haley kept saying no in politer and politer ways. Meanwhile Dee told Barrett that Haley was really after Drew, which sent Barrett to the obvious next thought: if they will do that to Drew, I am not far behind.
That is the problem with a majority this large. Every secret shared to build trust with one person is a countdown timer on somebody else.
Pick Your Poison Is A Better Competition Than It Sounds
Veto players were Haley, Melody, Drew and Taylor, plus Mallory via Melody through Houseguest Choice and Chuk, chosen by Haley. Morgan from last season hosted what amounted to a murder mystery drinking game. Offer a glass, try to poison someone without getting poisoned, and two bad drinks knocks you out.
It rewarded reading people rather than running or spelling, so the results told you who is actually paying attention.
Taylor Turns Being Underestimated Into A Veto Win
Drew opened by going after Taylor, missed, and poisoned himself. Melody caught Chuk. Mallory took her shot at Haley and missed. Taylor then knocked Mallory out entirely. Chuk caught Melody. Drew went after Haley and eliminated himself instead.
Haley aimed at Melody and drank her own poison. Chuk hit Taylor. Then Chuk finished Melody. Haley took one more swing at Taylor, poisoned herself a second time, and was gone. That left Chuk and Taylor, and Taylor handed him the final glass to win the Power of Veto. For a player who said at the top of the hour that the house underestimates her, that is about as clean a rebuttal as you can film.
The Red Corner Cracks In Public
Haley was visibly annoyed, because a nominee winning veto meant more blood on her hands. Her plan was Lyric. When she said so to Kamu and Chuk, Kamu pushed back hard: Mallory wants them gone, Lyric wants to work with them, so why burn the one person offering a vote. It got heated. Whatever the Red Corner was three weeks ago, it is not that now.
Lyric then made it worse. Trying to prove her value, she told Haley that Mallory intended to nominate Chuk and Kamu. Haley did not hear loyalty. She heard someone who would sell her closest friends for a week of safety. At the ceremony, Taylor saved herself and Haley named Lyric, leaving Drew, Melody and Lyric on the block.
What Thursday Night Actually Decides
Here is the part that matters. The nominations do not settle the eviction, because the BB Blockbuster sits in between. All three nominees compete, the winner walks away safe, and only the other two go to a vote. Three completely different evictions are still live, and the house has been building cases for all of them.
